Dragon Boat Race Weekend
Last weekend was the first time all year that I was able to attend a dragon boat race. As the race announcer at the San Francisco International Dragon Boat Championships, I usually spend a whole season watching the races and tracking the local teams, in addition to helping run the races and coaching teams. With Punky's birth, I am no longer able to commit to more than a few hours a year to helping the CDBA (California Dragon Boat Association), the dragon boat race organization that runs the race.
That's a shame, because the SF race has grown to become a big-time event. We even have a title sponsor, Kaiser Permanente. And the number and quantity of participating teams are at an all-time high. This year, we had teams from Boston, Calgary, Los Angeles, Miami, Munich (Germany), Portland, Toronto and Vancouver attend the race.
